Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Strategy

At Rowles Site Solutions, we’re not just about site cleaning and waste management. We’re dedicated to doing it in a way that’s good for the planet, our community, and our business. Our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Strategy guides us in making decisions that are sustainable, responsible, and ethical.

Our main goal is to have a site cleaning and waste management approach that reduces our environmental impact, supports our community’s well-being, and ensures we comply with all governance standards for every new building project we work on.

1. Environmental responsibility

Our Focus

Implementation of effective waste minimisation strategies to significantly reduce construction waste. These efforts will also benefit clients by reducing costs, improving workplace safety, enhancing public image, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, such as the Protection of the Environment Operation (POEO) Act.

Our Action Plan

  • Collaborate with recycling facilities to divert waste from landfills.
  • Install and maintain waste and masonry bags at all building sites to segregate materials such as concrete, bricks, metals, and other recyclables.
  • Separate Recycling Streams: Rowles Site Solutions works with dedicated recyclers for steel, gyprock, masonry, and cardboard, ensuring these materials are managed in separate waste streams apart from general waste bags.
  • Conduct site cleans based on five stages of the build (Slab, Framing, Brick / cladding, Gyprock, Final) to ensure compliance with recycling procedures.

Target

Achieve an 80% recycling rate for all non-hazardous construction materials by the end of the next financial year.

Our Focus

Encourage the reuse of materials wherever possible to minimise resource extraction and extend the lifecycle of construction materials.

Our Action Plan

  • Partner with clients to identify materials that can be reused on-site, such as bricks, tiles, and timber waste for secondary construction.
  • Explore partnerships with circular economy programs to donate excess materials to social projects or for refurbishment.
  • Create guidelines for builders to optimise materials for reuse, reducing the demand for new materials.

Target

Establish a program to reuse at least 25% of waste materials within two years.

Our Focus

Develop systems to recover valuable components from waste that would otherwise be discarded.

Our Action Plan

  • Invest in technology to enable on-site and off-site separation of reusable and recyclable materials from mixed construction waste.
  • Partner with recovery facilities to process waste efficiently and retrieve valuable materials like timber, metals, and aggregates.
  • Incorporate waste recovery metrics into project completion reports, highlighting successful recovery reports.

Target

Recover 85% of waste not directly reusable or recyclable by processing it for further use in industrial or construction applications.

  • Implement trials of dust suppression and erosion control materials (Gravelock) for building sites and subdivisions to reduce the need for grass seeding. This will reduce dust, erosion, grass maintenance and water usage, leading to a safer and cleaner work environment.
  • Introduce the opportunity to deploy AWA (All weather access) mats to reduce the need to import aggregates to the site.

2. Social Responsibility

2.1 Supporting the Local Community

Job Creation

By implementing comprehensive recycling and recovery programs, we will create local jobs in waste processing, recycling, and reuse networks.

Donations

Materials that cannot be reused in construction will be donated to local charities and community-building projects to create a positive social impact.

Diversity and Inclusion

We will promote diversity in recruitment practices and create opportunities for underrepresented groups in the community. Rowles Site Solutions ensures our workforce reflects the diversity of the areas where we operate.

Health and Safety

We will ensure all recycling and recovery processes meet the highest safety standards to protect both workers and the environment. We will conduct regular safety audits and provide training to site workers on identifying, handling, and recycling materials safely.

Employee Development

Rowles Site Solutions will provide training and opportunities for upskilling in sustainability and waste management practices to empower employees to contribute to ESG goals.

3. Governance and Compliance

3.1 Regulatory Compliance

Our Focus

Ensure all waste management practices comply with local, state, and national environmental laws and building regulations.

Our Action Plan

  • Work closely with governing bodies to stay ahead of new environmental policies and aim to be an industry leader in sustainable waste practices.
  • Ensure that each project has a comprehensive waste management plan that outlines recycling, reusing, and recovering procedures, and is reviewed by both RSS and the client.

Reports

Reports detailing waste management performance, including the percentage of materials recycled, reused, or recovered, can be generated on request.

Our Action Plan

  • Collaborate with suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability and ethical labour practices.
  •  Hold suppliers accountable to high environmental and ethical standards through regular reviews.

4. Key Metrics for Success

Recycling Rate

85% of non-hazardous waste materials recycled.

Reuse Rate

25% of waste materials reused within two years.

Recovery Rate

85% recovery of materials through waste processing and technology investments.

Compliance

Achieve 100% adherence to all relevant environmental regulations and waste management policies.

5. Risk Management

Our Action Plan

  • Identify and mitigate potential ESG-related risks such as changes in environmental regulations, labour shortages, or shifts in public opinion on sustainability practices.
  • Establish a response plan to address these risks proactively.

6. Innovation and Continuous Improvement

Our Action Plan

  • Commit to the continuous review and refinement of the ESG strategy based on emerging technologies, industry trends, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Encourage innovation in waste management, energy efficiency, and materials reuse to further minimise environmental impact.
